Pet Sterilization
Here are the facts regarding pet sterilization:
•70,000 puppies and kittens are born in the United States, every day. (When compared with the 10,000 human births each day, it's clear that there simply are not enough homes for every pet).
•Of these 70,000 animals, more than 12,000,000 precious dog and cat lives, plus the endless stream of other spirit animals, end up at animal shelters around the country -- America's dumping ground for the unwanted, not respected and disregarded pets.
•Nearly 8,000,000 of those animals are euthanized (murdered) every year because there aren't enough homes for them all.
•This tragedy could end almost immediately if all pets were sterilized.
Many people believe that breeding their pet would be fun, or even beneficial for some reason. Some of them rationalize that they will find proper homes, but these homes could be taking in other pets who are on the euthanasia line.
One unaltered pet can yield 1 million offspring in less than 10 years! This statistic alone should be reason enough to do the responsible thing and spay or neuter your pet.
And yet, there are even more compelling statistics which should also provide reason enough to spay or neuter your pet:
•Spayed and neutered pets live longer, healthier lives
•Spaying and neutering eliminates or reduces many major health problems, many of which are difficult and expensive to treat
•Spaying females eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incident of breast cancer, particularly when your pet is spayed before the first estrous cycle
•Neutering males reduces the incident of prostate cancer and prostate disorders
•Spayed and neutered pets are better behaved and generally calmer
•Neutered cats are less likely to spray and mark territory
•Spaying a female eliminates her heat cycle, which means there is no associated mess
•Spayed and neutered pets are less likely to bite or get into territory fights with other animals
•Unaltered animals often exhibit more aggressive behavior and temperament problems than do those that have been spayed or neutered
Let’s leave the breeding to qualified, licensed professional breeders who can ensure the safety of the animal and proper blood lines for pure breeds (By the way, by licensed professionals, we do not mean puppy mill operators, which is another story entirely).
